NewIcons 3.1 - Update for 3.0 - August 26th, 1996.
=====================================================
First of all, we'd like to thank all of you who sent us mail with
your comments or bug reports. That's much appreciated!
Here's a minor update that fixes various problems users experienced
while using NewIcons3. If you haven't done so yet, you must have
previously downloaded the NewIconsV3 complete distribution.
IMPORTANT: You MUST have NewIcons V3 already installed before installing
this updated version! The complete archive can be found on
Aminet as util/wb/NewIconsV3.lha.
How to Install this update:
---------------------------
You can double-click on the supplied "Install" script. It's a short
AmigaDOS script that will find the location of the NewIcons executable on
your boot partition, and copy the new one over it.
If you prefer to do it manualy (or encounter any problem while using
the supplied install script), just copy the new NewIcons executable
over the old one (it is probably located in your C: directory on your
boot partition), and reboot.
SwazInfo and DOpus 5.x problems
-------------------------------
The problems of SwazInfo crashing and DOpus5 not properly updating icons
are now fixed. Probably a few other problems were fixed at the same time
(one CPU register got trashed in one of the patches).
Installer returning error message
---------------------------------
For those who got an error message while installing NI3, something
like "Invalid argument to function on line 286", it's just because your
Installer executable is outdated. Get the latest version off Aminet:
util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha
Prefs/ClassAct not working
--------------------------
We simply forgot to include all the ClassAct classes required by it.
Having discovered that it amounted to virtualy 90% of the classes, we
decided to leave them out of that update package. You can get the
latest version from the FTP support site:
ftp.warped.com/pub/amiga/classact/
ClassAct 2.0 should also reach Aminet one of these days (Hi Chris! :)
Problems running NewIcons3 while V2 worked fine?
------------------------------------------------
A few things you might check:
1- Make sure you don't run NewIcons twice in your
startup-sequence/user-startup.
2- If you're running NofillNodraw, remove them.
3- If you're running MCP, make sure its own NoBorder patch is disabled.
RTG Mode not working with Picasso II's native software
------------------------------------------------------
Either disable RTG Mode, or get CyberGFX :) What RTG Mode does is
to tell NewIcons to allocate FastRAM for the icons data. So your
Workbench emulation must patch graphics.library to use the card's
blitter rather than the Amiga blitter to properly work. It seems that
it isn't the case with the Picasso II native software, but CyberGFX with
the Picasso II will work fine.
Programming information for newicon.library
--------------------------------------------
After getting quite a few questions on how to directly support
NewIcons in your own programs (mainly from Workbench replacements authors),
I noticed that Nicola didn't provided any Autodocs for the library. So
I wrote them, and included them in that archive. Enjoy!
Missing default icons for DefIcons
----------------------------------
Phil just left for two weeks before sending me the missing icons.
I didn't wanted to delay this much needed update anymore, so decided
to simply release it without them. We'll take care of this when he
comes back with probably another update to take care of the DefIcons
question.
New Email address
-----------------
I (Eric) finaly got my own Email address. Please use
sauvae00@libertel.montreal.qc.ca now if you need to reach me. Note that if
you need to send me any file attach/uuencoded stuff, keep using the
step.polymtl.ca account, since the Libertel account is limited to 100 Kb of
disk space.
Eric Sauvageau (NewIcons development team).
